With today's busy world, many of us like to come home and relax in front of the 'idiot box' otherwise known as the TV. Television shows come in such variety that there is something for everyone, and with the relatively low cost of an antenna or for some, a satellite dish or cable, it becomes a good entertainment option versus the cost of a movie or going out drinking with your mates.

Some people even just leave the TV on for some background noise as they go about their home life. For others, TV is educational, with documentaries and other programmes imparting knowledge. Still others use TV to catch the latest news and talk shows.

Many parents become lazy and use TV as their babysitter. You can put a small child in front of a TV and they will be amused for hours on end. There are loads of good children's programmes though, with educational and fun shows such as the classic, Sesame Street. There’s also some good cartoons like Scooby Doo and Powderpuff Girls, and even the creepy Barney.

A favourite among those trapped at home all day watching those screaming little kids or confined to bed rest are soap operas, otherwise known as soapies, where you can watch lives that are more tangled and miserable than your own. These stories spin an impossible web that keeps you hooked to the next show.

However, the best television is put out during primetime, when everyone is home from work and has had some dinner. You'll find the highest quality and most expensive to make programmes on in this time slot, from 19:00 to 22:00. Usually there are good action shows, some dramas and some sitcoms that everyone can enjoy together
