There are many excellent TV comedies, mostly coming in the form of sit-coms or situation comedies, where we see humour in the daily lives of the characters. One of the most popular sit-coms in history is the Friends series, which ran for 13 seasons. In this programme, a group of six friends in their early 20s start out at new jobs in New York, and they grow over the course of a decade, forming relationships and having all types of situations they must deal with, all in a humorous way. The show has a witty charm that is irresistible to most.
Another fun television show is Becker. Here, we see a sarcastic jerk who is a city doctor living a somewhat sad life with his sad friends. He runs a small clinic and you basically view comic life situations of him and his friends. Becker is sort of the anti-doctor, a heavy chain-smoker with a poor diet and bad attitude.
Reba, starring the famous country music singer, is a light-hearted look at divorce after cheating. Because of their three children, Reba and her ex-husband Brock must maintain a relationship, even after he marries his giant mistress, Barbara Jean, and has a baby with her. To make things even more difficult, her high school aged daughter has a baby and then has her boyfriend move in.
A fun look at gay life and relationships is found in Will & Grace. Will is a gay lawyer and his roommate Grace is a straight woman who is in love with him. A rich drunk and a gay queen round out the usual cast.
A teenage favourite is What I Like About You, starring Jennie Garth from Beverly Hills 90210, as the older sister of a teen. Together they get through life, from teenage love to grown-up business problems.
